Pure Dance Center

For the safety and professionalism of our dancers, please note the following: no jewelry of any kind (stud earrings only), and no outdoor shoes are permitted in the studios. Each class has its own specific requirements—please read them carefully, as they do vary. All requirements are mandatory, and dancers who are not in compliance will not be able to participate. Pure Dance Center appreciates your cooperation in maintaining the standards you expect from a professional studio.

Ballet

Description: Ballet is a classical form of dance. It is the foundation of many of the more modern styles of dance we see today. There are three main schools of ballet: French (the Royal Ballet's style), Russian (Vaganova), and Italian (Cecchetti). They differ in style and also in teaching structure. Pure Dance Centers' focus is the R.A.D. (Royal Academy of Dance) or the French style of ballet. However, we introduce our more advanced dancers to different terminology so they are well-versed in all styles.

Requirements: No additional class requirement. Must be in the CORRECT uniform (please see the uniform page, as uniforms for each level differ). Hair MUST be in a PROPER ballet bun. (Please see the Bun video.) Stretch canvas ballet shoes ONLY. No leather. Before allowing the dancer to wear new shoes to class, please have them approved by the studio owner or front office manager. Ballet shoes should fit like a sock, not be baggy. Leotards must also fit the body like a second skin, not be baggy.

Pointe

Description: Pointe is when a dancer is all the way up on their toes in a shoe designed with a hard shank to help support the dancer in this very advanced form of ballet. The dancer will perform large sections of choreography en pointe.

Pure Dance Center’s philosophy is to protect dancers’ bodies from injury and to promote longevity. The “Pre-Pointe Test” is a valuable tool to ascertain if a dancer is strong enough for the rigors of this demanding sport.

Requirements: Invitation-ONLY class for dancers who are taking at least three ballet classes a week. To be considered, you must be at least twelve years of age and have been taking ballet consistently for at least four years. You must also pass the “Pre-Pointe” test (a series of exercises designed specifically to gauge readiness for pointe work.) Dancers must be in a PROPER BUN and be in the correct Ballet uniform.

Pre-Pointe

Description: This class is a two-year program to ready young dancers for pointe. Dancers will be considered at the age of ten for this program.

Pre-pointe requires dancers to wear a similar shoe to a full pointe shoe; the biggest difference is that the shoe is shankless. This means the back of the shoes (the sole) is not intended to support the dancer's weight. In this shoe, the dancers DO NOT stand on their toes. It's a training shoe to strengthen the feet, get used to the feel of a pointe shoe, and work on being comfortable dancing in this unique shoe.

Requirements: Invitation ONLY class. Dancers are required to do a MINIMUM of two ballet classes a week (Pre-Pointe would be the third class). Hair must be in a PROPER BUN, and the dancer must be in the correct uniform. Transition ballet tights.

Ballet for Babies – 30 Mins

Requirements: Must be age 3. Must be in pink DANCE attire. No Costumes. No headbands, jewelry, or anything that can distract young dancers. Pink ballet socks or Transition Ballet tights (sold at the studio or Capezio online. See links). Stretch canvas ballet shoes (before allowing the dancer to wear them, please have them approved by either the front desk manager or the studio owner. Ballet shoes must fit like a sock, or the teacher cannot see and correct what the foot is doing.) This class will teach your budding dancer basic dance moves and dance vocabulary. At this age, we are looking for young dancers to learn to listen and follow simple directions to music. This is where the love begins!

Ballet/Tap Combo Class – 45 Mins

Description: This class teaches our young dancers more in-depth listening skills and more technique. Through many years of development, this structured class teaches technique through stories and imagery. Our results are second to none, as our young dancers don’t even know they are learning ballet technique; it’s just FUN! The last 20 minutes is dedicated to tap. Our young dancers get to make some fabulous sounds using their feet. This teaches rhythm recognition and musicality. They also just love to make noise!

Requirements: Must be age 4. Must be in pink DANCE attire. No Costumes. No headbands, jewelry, or anything that can distract young dancers. Pink ballet socks or Transition Ballet tights (sold at the studio or Capezio online. See links). Jazz

Description: Jazz is a high-energy class. Whereas ballet works in a turned-out position, jazz works in parallel. Jazz has dynamic turns and big jumps. Some classes focus more on ‘across the floor’ exercises, while sometimes there is choreography taught.

Requirements: Age 6 and up. No additional classes are required. Hair must be in a slicked-back ponytail or a proper ballet bun. They can wear any color DANCE WEAR, for example, a leotard, dance top, sports top, dance shorts, or dance leggings. NO BAGGY CLOTHING. NO STREETWEAR. Jazz shoes with a SNUG fit.

Leaps and Turns

Description: Leaps and turns builds on the techniques of ballet and jazz. It goes more in-depth into the mechanics and combinations of the big jumps and impressive turns. The class is a technique class, so there are no combos taught.

Requirements: Age 6 and up. Must also be enrolled in either one ballet OR one jazz class. Hair must be in a slicked-back ponytail or a proper ballet bun. They can wear any color dancewear, for example, a leotard, dance top, sports top, dance shorts, or dance leggings. NO BAGGY CLOTHING. NO STREETWEAR. Jazz shoes with a SNUG fit.

Progressions

Description: This class is similar to Leaps and Turns; it also focuses on the dance transitions between movements, so it is like mini set choreography going across the floor. This class feels more like bite-sized dances than simply the technique of the tricks. We get to work on performance as well as the technical aspects.

Requirements: Age 6 and up. Must be enrolled in one ballet class or one jazz class. Hair must be in a slicked-back ponytail or a proper ballet bun. They can wear any color dancewear, for example, a leotard, dance top, sports top, dance shorts, or dance leggings. NO BAGGY CLOTHING. NO STREETWEAR. Jazz shoes with a SNUG fit, half soles, or DANCE socks (MUST be either Capezio or Apolla Socks).

Contemporary

Description: Contemporary dance combines ballet, jazz, and modern dance. Contemporary is all about suspended, controlled movements and is deeply rooted in storytelling. It contains floor work and unique movement that centers around strength and flexibility.

Requirements: Age 6 and up. Must be enrolled in one ballet class or one jazz class. Hair must be in a slicked-back ponytail or a proper ballet bun. They can wear any color DANCE WEAR, for example, a leotard, dance top, sports top, dance shorts, or dance leggings. NO BAGGY CLOTHING. NO STREETWEAR. Half soles or dance socks (MUST be either Capezio or Apolla socks).

Contemporary Tricks

Description: This class builds on the basic floorwork learned in jazz and contemporary. It teaches the more challenging movements seen in advanced routines—like floor rolls, inversions, balances, and seamless transitions. Students learn how to safely execute these skills while developing strength, flexibility, and control.

Requirements: Age 6 and up. Must be enrolled in one ballet class and one contemporary or jazz class. Hair must be in a slicked-back ponytail or a proper ballet bun. They can wear any color dancewear, for example, a leotard, dance top, sports top, dance shorts, or dance leggings. NO BAGGY CLOTHING. NO STREETWEAR. Bare feet, half soles, or dance socks (MUST be Capezio or Apolla Socks).

Musical Theater

Description: This class combines dance, acting, and storytelling for a Broadway-style performance. Students learn choreography, expression, and stage presence while building confidence and performance skills.

Requirements: Age 6 and up. Must be enrolled in one jazz class and one tap class. Hair must be in a slicked-back ponytail or a proper ballet bun. They can wear any color dancewear, for example, a leotard, dance top, sports top, dance shorts, or dance leggings. NO BAGGY CLOTHING. NO STREETWEAR. Jazz shoes with a SNUG fit.

Tap

Description: Tap teaches dancers to create rhythm and sound through intricate footwork, developing timing, coordination, and musical phrasing. Students progress from fundamental steps and rudiments to more complex syncopated rhythms and combinations, all while sharpening precision and artistry.

Requirements: Age 6 and up. No additional class requirements. Hair must be in a slicked-back ponytail or a proper ballet bun. They can wear any color dancewear, for example, a leotard, dance top, sports top, dance shorts, or dance leggings. NO BAGGY CLOTHING. NO STREETWEAR. Tap shoes that fit the foot. They should not have 'room to grow,' or they cannot get the correct part of the foot in contact with the floor.

Tumbling

Description: Tumbling focuses on acrobatic movement skills such as rolls, handstands, walkovers, and progressions into advanced passes, such as back handsprings, front and side aerials, and back tucks. This class makes dancers strong and develops spatial awareness while advancing their technical execution and athletic ability.

Requirements: Age 6 and up. There are no additional class requirements. Hair must be in a slicked-back ponytail or a proper ballet bun. They can wear any color DANCE WEAR, for example, a leotard, dance top, dance shorts, or dance leggings. NO BAGGY CLOTHING. NO STREETWEAR. NO T-SHIRTS OR TANK TOPS. Bare feet ONLY.

SST Training (Stretch, Strength, and Technical Training)

Description: SST Training is a one-of-a-kind program developed exclusively at Pure Dance Center. This specialized class blends innovative methods like MuV and Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) to enhance strength, flexibility, alignment, and control. Designed to support dancers' long-term growth, SST builds the foundation for safe technique and lasting performance longevity.

Requirements: Age 6 and up. There are no additional class requirements. Hair must be in a slicked-back ponytail or a proper ballet bun. They can wear any color dancewear, for example, a leotard, dance top, sports top, dance shorts, or dance leggings. NO BAGGY CLOTHING. NO STREETWEAR. Bare feet ONLY. On-Camera Performance

Description: On-camera performance is a unique class that prepares dancers for the commercial side of the industry. Students learn how to adapt their movement for film, television, and social media while gaining experience in performance techniques, camera awareness, and stage presence. This class helps dancers sharpen their versatility and confidence in front of the lens—skills that go beyond the studio.

Requirements: Age 6 and up. Must be enrolled in one jazz class. Hair must be in a slicked-back ponytail or a proper ballet bun. They can wear any color dancewear, for example, a leotard, dance top, sport top, dance shorts, or dance leggings. NO BAGGY CLOTHING. NO STREETWEAR. Jazz shoes with a SNUG fit, bare feet, half soles, or dance socks (MUST be Capazio or Apolla socks).

Improv

Description: Improvisation Class at Pure Dance Center is a completely unique system developed in-house, designed to give dancers structured tools for exploration. Through cued exercises, students work individually and in groups to move past hesitation, drawing on both pedestrian movement and inventive physicality. This helps the dancer expand their range, respond to the moment, and grow confident in their artistry.

Requirements: Age 6 and up. Must be enrolled in one jazz class AND one ballet class. Hair must be in a slicked-back ponytail or a proper ballet bun. They can wear any color dancewear, for example, a leotard, dance top, sports top, dance shorts, or dance leggings. NO BAGGY CLOTHING. NO STREETWEAR. Bare feet, half soles, or dance socks (MUST be Capezio or Apolla socks).

Dance Team

Description: This class channels the energy and precision of collegiate and professional dance teams. Dancers train in sharp jazz, Pom, and hip hop–inspired choreography with a strong emphasis on synchronization, stamina, and performance power. The focus is on clean lines, dynamic formations, and the confidence it takes to command an arena or competition stage. Perfect for dancers who want to develop the athleticism, discipline, and polish of top-level teams.

Requirements: Age 6 and up. Must be enrolled in one jazz class. Hair must be in a slicked-back ponytail or a proper ballet bun. They can wear any color dancewear, for example, a leotard, dance top, dance shorts, sports top, or dance leggings. NO BAGGY CLOTHING. NO STREETWEAR. Jazz shoes that have a SNUG fit or Stelle Cheer shoes (or any brand of cheer shoe).

Hip Hop

Description: High-energy and rooted in today’s street and commercial styles, our hip-hop classes focus on rhythm, musicality, and presence. Dancers develop individuality through foundational grooves, footwork, and choreography that emphasize style, versatility, and performance power.

Requirements: Age 6 and up. No additional class requirements. Clothing can be baggy for this class, such as T-shirts and sweatpants. NO JEANS, NO RIGID FABRICS. MUST BE ABLE TO STRETCH AND MOVE FREELY. Female dancers MUST wear a sports top or a leotard under clothing. DANCE SNEAKERS such as Fuego, Bloch Kix, Baileys Dance Sneaker, and Stelle Cheer Shoe (or any brand like it) are REQUIRED to preserve our dance floors. No bare feet or jazz shoes.

Heels

Description: Adult Heels is a dynamic, empowering class that blends technique, musicality, and performance in heels. Inspired by commercial and contemporary styles, the class focuses on alignment, control, confidence, and expressive movement. Dancers will work on walks, transitions, and choreography in a welcoming, judgment-free space designed for adult dancers of all levels. Heels are optional; confidence is not.
